Like Water for Flowers

“Them Changes”

Portrait of Remy

Referencing the painting, “Miss T”, by Barkley L. Hendricks (1969)

“Them Changes”, Portrait of Remy by DeVaughn Jerrell (2023)

Named after Thundercat’s, “Them Changes”. A funky psychedelic groove about heartbreak with opening lyrics like, “nobody move, there’s blood on the floor/ and I can’t find my heart"

This song also features a sample from The Isley Brothers’, “Footsteps in the Dark”, a hit song from the 70s, which couples perfectly with Barkley’s painting which was completed on the cusp of the 70s.

Being that “Miss T” & “Them Changes” were both Remy’s favorite painting and song respectively, this work was a no brainer.
