“Like Water for Flowers”, is a body of work (continuously being added to) which uses individuals and connections DeVaughn gains along his lifetime to reimagine masterpieces and styles throughout art history. Their presence in these works serve as a symbolic act, as well as a conscious and intentional effort to merge the past with his present reality. By replacing classical figures and faces with more intimate ones, he connects history with memory, the ordinary with the grandiose, & ultimately, connects with the universal language of human emotion. These are not just recreations; these are conversations between generations.
